Court dismisses El-Rufai’s N120m suit against DSS, EFCC, ICPC and attorney general

The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja dismissed former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai’s N120 million fundamental-rights suit against the DSS and three other respondents. Justice Sylvanus Oriji ruled that the EFCC and ICPC invitation letters met constitutional requirements, and that the DSS’s attempted arrest at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and seizure of El-Rufai’s passport were lawful. The court said El-Rufai could not use the courts to prevent the agencies from carrying out their duties and dismissed the suit as lacking merit. It ordered him to pay N200,000 in costs to each of the four respondents, including the attorney general of the federation.

Regarding the legal proceedings involving AAC presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, the group urged the party to pursue remedies through the courts and respect judicial independence. It called on AAC leaders and young supporters to avoid mobilisation that could lead to violence or obstruct court proceedings ahead of the 2027 elections.
