Cross River: DSS intercepts machine guns and AK-47s, arrests two suspects

The Department of State Services (DSS) intercepted weapons, including General Purpose Machine Guns and AK-47 rifles, along the Bekwarra–Ogoja axis in Nigeria’s Cross River State. Four suspects were reportedly tracked from northern Nigeria through Benue State; two were arrested and two escaped with gunshot wounds. Governor Bassey Edet Otu, speaking through Deputy Governor Peter Odey, warned politicians and their sponsors that violence would not be tolerated in the state. The arrested suspects are to be charged in court as investigators trace the weapons’ origin, transport network, sponsors and intended recipients.
