Cyclone Murasu makes landfall on India’s eastern coast

Cyclone Murasu made landfall near Ongole in Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam district at about 1am on Tuesday, flooding low-lying areas and uprooting trees and electricity poles. The India Meteorological Department warned of heavy to very heavy rain across several districts, while extensive damage to crops, fishing boats and infrastructure was reported in Prakasam and Bapatla districts. No deaths or injuries had been reported, and authorities planned to evacuate about 30,000 people. Murasu is the second cyclone to hit the region in a week, following Cyclone Arnab.

The Congolese Agency for Major Works says anti-erosion work is planned and that modernization has advanced along more than 50 kilometres, including 28 kilometres fully asphalted; the first 60 kilometres are expected to be delivered by the end of the month.
