DA sweeps all eight Mitchells Plain wards, but councillors face service delivery test

The Democratic Alliance retained all eight Mitchells Plain wards in the November 4, 2026 local elections, winning wards 43, 75, 76, 78, 79, 81, 82 and 116. Ricardo McKenzie, the party’s local leader, thanked voters and urged elected and re-elected councillors to speed up municipal service delivery and address residents’ concerns. He also called for stronger community safety and accountability, warning councillors not to become complacent after the victory. In Ward 75, DA councillor Joan Woodman was re-elected with 56.2% of the vote.
