DRC: ‘Heirs of the Citizen Struggle’ movement denounces the persistence of battles from before the 2018 transition

The citizen movement ‘Heirs of the Citizen Struggle’ announced its launch in a statement released on October 21, pledging peaceful actions to defend the Constitution, the rule of law and fundamental freedoms. Its coordinator, Bénie Bilenge, recalled the arrests, intimidation and violence faced by activists mobilizing before the 2018 transition, and paid tribute to activists who died. The movement says the change in power has not been enough to guarantee democracy and urges President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo to abandon any referendum that would alter the constitutional order to extend his time in power.
