DRC: Joseph Kabila’s party officially dissolved by the Council of State

The Council of State granted the Interior Ministry’s request and dissolved the PPRD, a party founded in 2002 and associated with Joseph Kabila, stripping it of its legal status. The court cited the involvement of party officials in an insurrectionary enterprise, following months of administrative restrictions and a nationwide suspension of the party’s activities. The ruling comes amid tensions over Kabila’s rapprochement with the AFC/M23 and his appointment on October 12 as head of the Front for the Refoundation of the Nation. The PPRD supported Kabila during his time in power from 2001 to 2019, although some party officials and members have distanced themselves from his new role.
