NASS committed to increasing women’s participation, Bamidele says

Nigeria’s Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, says the 10th National Assembly is seeking to remove barriers to women’s participation in governance through a proposed constitutional amendment. The proposal would add 37 seats each to the Senate and House of Representatives, plus three seats in every State House of Assembly, for 16 years covering four electoral cycles. The National Assembly has begun consultations with state legislatures to secure the concurrence required for the amendment. Speaking at a FIDA event in Ado-Ekiti, Bamidele also cited violence, economic exclusion and digital risks among the challenges facing women and children.
