Ebola: Enugu intensifies surveillance across 17 LGAs

The Enugu State Government has intensified surveillance across its 17 local government areas and reactivated its Public Health Emergency Operations Centre after reports of an Ebola case in Nigeria. Health Commissioner Prof. George O. Ugwu said no case had been confirmed in the state and that rapid response teams were on standby. Authorities are coordinating preparedness with the NCDC and other partners, including strengthened monitoring around Akanu Ibiam International Airport. Ugwu urged health facilities to report suspected cases promptly and residents to follow preventive measures and avoid rumours and stigmatisation.

The outbreak has killed more than 4,000 people in the DRC, while Uganda, which had cases earlier this year, has been declared Ebola-free.

He urged Nigerians to remain calm, rely on official sources and avoid spreading unverified claims on social media.
