Médecins Sans Frontières plans to close its Elikiya Ebola treatment center in Bunia by the end of October, in agreement with health authorities, although transmission remains active in Ituri. Opened in early June 2026, the center treated 572 patients with confirmed Ebola in four months. MSF will redeploy its emergency teams to other areas, while patients can receive care at four other treatment centers in and around Bunia. Nationwide, the outbreak has caused 4,602 deaths among 9,552 confirmed cases and has affected eight provinces.
