Ebonyi Opposition Protests Proposed ₦150m Billboard Fee

Opposition parties and residents of Ebonyi State have condemned a proposed ₦150 million fee for campaign billboards, warning it could limit political competition ahead of the 2027 elections. The proposal followed a motion by state assembly Deputy Chief Whip Arinze Lucas Chukwu to address indiscriminate posters and billboards in the state capital. SDP governorship candidate Kingsley Agbor and Labour Party candidate Splendour Oko-Eze accused Governor Francis Nwifuru’s administration of restricting opposition activity and questioned whether the fee would apply equally to the ruling APC. Analyst Chika Nwoba warned that the proposal could heighten political tensions.

Shinkafi asks INEC to withdraw Ya’u’s name as APC senatorial candidate in Zamfara

Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove Senator Sahabi Alhaji Ya’u from the APC candidate list for Zamfara North Senatorial District. On October 20, the Court of Appeal in Sokoto dismissed Ya’u’s appeal and upheld the Federal High Court in Gusau’s decision nullifying the disputed primary and ordering a fresh one. Shinkafi said keeping the candidacy in place could prevent the APC from fielding a candidate and jeopardise its participation in the 2027 general elections.
