EDC formalizes capital increase to CFAF 25.3 billion using earlier state funding

Electricity Development Corporation (EDC) increased its share capital from CFAF 15 billion to CFAF 25.289 billion, a rise of 68.6%, by incorporating CFAF 10.289 billion provided by the state between 2008 and 2010. An extraordinary general meeting approved converting the claims into capital. The amendment filing was submitted on October 7, 2026, to the registry of the Yaoundé-Centre administratif court of first instance.

The government plans €43 billion in new fiscal measures for 2027 to bring the deficit down to 5% of GDP, but analysts say spending cuts will be difficult to implement amid social tensions and a deeply divided parliament.
