Egypt calls for a political solution between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty called on October 22 for diplomatic efforts to end the escalation between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis in Yemen. He urged a complete withdrawal from recently occupied territories and a return to positions held before September 1, while reaffirming Egypt’s solidarity with Riyadh. Since the start of the month, the Iran-backed Houthis have claimed near-daily attacks on Saudi Arabia, including a strike on Riyadh airport. The escalation follows a major Houthi offensive in September and the collapse in July of a truce that had brought several years of relative calm to the civil war.
