Ekiti: Only an enemy of progress would declare 2030 bid as Oyebanji starts second term, Tinubu says

President Bola Tinubu called any politician declaring an intention to run for Ekiti governor in 2030 an “enemy of progress” while Biodun Oyebanji is beginning his second term. He warned that campaigning too early could distract from Oyebanji’s work and weaken the government’s performance. Represented by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, Tinubu spoke at a thanksgiving service at the Cathedral Church of Emmanuel in Okesa, Ado-Ekiti. Oyebanji and his deputy, Monisade Afuye, were sworn in for their second term on Friday in Ado-Ekiti.

Speaking at the second Africa Raw Materials Summit 2026, he called for continued industrial policies to expand processing plants and manufacturing clusters and reduce exports of unprocessed commodities. He said a proposed bill requiring at least 30% of raw-material processing to take place in Nigeria could generate more than 1.2 million jobs and increase annual non-oil export earnings by over $1.2 billion. Ike-Muonso also cited the AfCFTA, the Nigeria First Policy and the 2025 Nigeria Industrial Policy as measures that could support local production.
