2027 presidential election: Court reserves judgment in SDP’s suit against INEC

The Federal High Court in Abuja has reserved judgment in the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) suit against Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which the party accuses of publishing Adewole Adebayo as its 2027 presidential candidate. The SDP says its primary and national convention, held in Abuja on May 20, 2026, and monitored by INEC, selected Hon. Abimbola Akeem Atanda. The party and its National Organising Secretary, Dr Chukwuma Ogbonna, are asking the court to set aside Adebayo’s listing and direct INEC to recognise Atanda. Justice Salim Ibrahim reserved judgment after the parties adopted their final briefs; the date will be communicated to them.
