Ali Shaban Hamma, a father of 10, was sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Federal High Court in Abuja after pleading guilty to terrorism charges. He admitted knowing Boko Haram members in his village in Borno State and failing to report them to federal troops. Justice Minister Lateef Fagbemi had sought a minimum 20-year sentence, arguing that Hamma’s protection had helped the terrorists evade justice. Justice Binta Fatima Nyako imposed a 10-year term, backdated to 2012, when Hamma was arrested and taken into custody.
