Journalist Antonis Vradis was part of the Global Sumud Flotilla, a fleet of more than 50 sailboats carrying activists and symbolic humanitarian aid to Gaza. On May 18, 2026, Israeli naval forces intercepted their vessel, La Sirena, in international waters near Cyprus. During the operation, 428 activists from over 45 countries were detained and transferred to the Nahshon, an Israeli military prison ship.
