French city of Lyon bans ‘all protests’ on Saturday

The Rhône prefecture has banned all protests in Lyon on Saturday, October 24, following violence during demonstrations on October 17. Mayor Grégory Doucet described hours of “chaos”: between 150 and 200 shops were looted, a tourist office was set on fire, and around 200 people were arrested. The Yellow Vest movement and unions have called for further nationwide demonstrations over the cost of living on Saturday, as well as a general strike and protests on November 5. Three-night curfews were also imposed in parts of Paris, Lyon and other cities.
