French fridge fright: Why supermarkets have become target for hackers | Cybercrime News | Al Jazeera

Hundreds of French supermarkets have been targeted by unprecedented cyberattacks on their internet-connected refrigeration systems, mainly produced by a Danish company. The hackers remotely increased the temperature of freezers and refrigerators to 50°C, leading to the spoilage of tons of food, fires, and equipment damage across more than 500 stores nationwide. Major supermarket groups including E-Leclerc, Intermarché, Carrefour, Monoprix, and Cooperative U were affected, with at least 300 Intermarché stores impacted. French authorities have advised companies to disconnect or restrict access to these systems, perform software updates, and have launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators.
