Guatemalan Former Prosecutor Shot Dead at Sports Centre

Juan Francisco Solorzano Foppa, a 43-year-old Guatemalan former prosecutor and anticorruption lawyer, was shot dead on Saturday at the Campo Marte sports complex in Guatemala City. Another man, Gustavo Adolfo Aguilar Gamarro, also died in the attack, which the Public Prosecutor’s Office said was carried out by two men. Police said they arrested two suspects and seized a carbine-style firearm and a motorcycle in connection with the case. President Bernardo Arevalo condemned the killing and vowed that both the perpetrators and those who ordered it would face justice.
