In Dakar, all-women parties are gaining popularity

In Dakar, the “Yaay sort danser” parties, launched in 2025 by Seynabou Thiam, Alix Dieng Lerouge and Maka Traoré, are drawing growing numbers of women and regularly selling out. Held once a quarter, the events provide a space for women to dance and unwind without the pressure of others’ gazes or the presence of men. The XXL anniversary edition on June 19, 2026, took place at Jet Café Beach on the Almadies Corniche, featuring music, performers, a raffle, activities and food; tickets cost 7,500 CFA francs in presale and 10,000 CFA francs at the door.
