In-form Atletico snatch late win at Espanyol

Alex Baena scored in the 89th minute to give Atletico Madrid a 1-0 win away to Espanyol. Diego Simeone’s second-placed side moved within two points of La Liga leaders Barcelona and extended its run to six consecutive wins in all competitions. Leandro Cabrera hit the crossbar for Espanyol, and Marcos Llorente struck the same woodwork for Atletico before Jan Oblak saved Pol Lozano’s stoppage-time effort. Javi Puado returned from a long-term knee injury, while Baena netted his fifth league goal from a Julián Álvarez pass.
