India protest live: ‘Cockroach’ leaders detained; New Delhi in lockdown | Elections News | Al Jazeera

More than 200 protesters were detained by police in New Delhi as they attempted to march to Jantar Mantar near Parliament. Leaders of the satirical movement CJP, including Dipke, Saurav Das, and Ashutosh Ranka, were arrested upon landing at New Delhi airport. The protests focus on India’s Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR), which the opposition claims disenfranchises millions of voters, especially Muslims, to benefit the BJP. AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal described the situation as living under an absolute dictatorship ruled by Modi.
