India’s Cockroach movement says members detained as protests continue | Protests News | Al Jazeera

India’s opposition group, the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), reports that many of its members have been detained as thousands of supporters and students continue protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Among those arrested is national spokesperson Deepak Baliyan, with the group claiming over 10,000 detentions nationwide. The protests follow allegations that the election body favors Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP after a controversial revision of voter lists, with demonstrations scheduled for Saturday in New Delhi.

Since the ceasefire was announced in October 2025, Israeli attacks have killed or wounded a Palestinian in Gaza every 90 minutes on average, according to Islamic Relief. Over the year, at least 1,454 Palestinians have been killed and more than 5,000 wounded, including 320 children. Gaza’s Health Ministry reports 1,471 deaths and 5,189 injuries since the ceasefire, with four killed and 28 wounded in the past 24 hours. Israel has killed at least 74,254 people since October 2023 and continues to block aid supplies, fuel, and medical materials, using the Yellow Line to push Palestinians out of 65% of Gaza, confining nearly 2.1 million people to the remaining 35%.
