Jonathan: Rivers ADC Rebukes Magnus Abe Over Amaechi Comment

The Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress rejected former senator Magnus Abe’s claim that Rotimi Amaechi opposed Goodluck Jonathan’s 2015 re-election because it was the North’s turn to lead. In a statement on Wednesday, Rivers ADC Publicity Secretary Chizy Enyi said Amaechi opposed Jonathan because he believed the former president had done nothing for the people of Rivers State. UN votes to condemn embargo of Cuba despite US lobbying push

The United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday passed a resolution condemning the US economic, commercial and financial embargo on Cuba, with 130 votes in favour and 17 against, including the United States and Israel. Twenty-five countries abstained, among them Germany and Italy, which had previously supported the resolution. Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said Washington was “once again isolated” in its effort to strangle the Cuban people. The Trump administration has tightened economic restrictions, including an energy blockade, while US officials sought to persuade more countries to abstain.

Aldiouma Sow, a member of Kiiraay – Les Patriotes républicains, voiced support for Professor Arona Coumba Noffene Diouf, whom he says is being targeted by a campaign of vilification and disinformation. He accused the “messianic faction” and its social media supporters of distorting the professor’s words. Sow said the remarks were a call for Senegalese citizens to become politically engaged, not a request for public authorities to intervene in partisan politics. He urged people to remain faithful to the facts and vigilant to protect civil peace and social cohesion in Senegal.
