Kano tests health workers’ readiness for an Ebola outbreak

Kano State’s Centre for Disease Control held a simulation to assess its response to a possible Ebola case, from detection at the airport or a border to transfer to the Yar Gaya Isolation Centre. Director-General Prof. Muhammad Abbas said preventive measures began after the state received information from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention. Health Commissioner Dr Labaran Yusuf said surveillance had been strengthened at the international airport, bus stations, major highways and state borders, and that health workers had been trained. Abbas urged residents to wash their hands regularly with soap under running water or use hand sanitiser when running water is unavailable.
