KACRAN raises alarm over mass livestock exodus from Nigeria

KACRAN, the Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria, has raised concerns over a mass exodus of livestock from Nigeria, calling it a national emergency and disgrace. Nigeria, once rich in livestock with dense herds and significant revenue from cattle taxes, now faces its worst depletion due to insecurity, lack of grazing reserves, and neglect, prompting millions of herders to migrate to neighboring countries. The association highlights daily exports of cattle, sheep, and rams to countries like Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, and Togo, especially from major markets such as Potiskum, the largest cattle market in West Africa.
