Kemi Seba Case: South African Justice Extends Suspense Until August 11

South African judicial authorities have postponed the review of Kémi Séba's case to August 11, 2026, extending his pretrial detention. The pan-African activist was arrested in Pretoria on April 13, 2026, along with his son and a South African national. Benin is seeking his extradition in a case of incitement to rebellion related to the December 2025 coup attempt.

Appeal Court reserves judgment on appeals against deregistration of ADC, 4 others

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has reserved judgment on appeals seeking to set aside the Federal High Court judgment that ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other political parties. The other parties are the Action Peoples Party (APP), Action Alliance (AA), Accord Party (AP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP). The appellate court had previously stayed execution of the judgment, criticizing Justice Peter Lifu for disregarding a stay of proceedings order. The High Court had ordered deregistration for failing to meet constitutional requirements, barring the parties from participating in the 2027 general elections.
