Kenya Advances Lake Victoria Ring Road Plans With World Bank

The Kenyan government and the World Bank assessed the proposed Lake Victoria Ring Road, inspecting existing roads and proposed routes and identifying issues to address during design and implementation. The mission was led by Qimiao Fan, the World Bank’s division director for Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia and Uganda, and included Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir. Expanded to about 612 kilometres with the addition of the Kisumu-Busia Highway, the route will cross five counties in western Kenya and is intended to improve regional links and access to farming areas, fishing sites and tourism destinations. President William Ruto announced Ksh60 billion for the first phase and said construction was expected to start in November, though the ministry has not provided a detailed schedule.
