Kenya refutes lockdown claims after third Ebola case

Kenya’s Ministry of Health confirmed a third case of Bundibugyo virus disease but said there would be no restrictions on travel, trade or public gatherings. The patient, a 65-year-old woman and close relative of the first two cases, had been in quarantine since October 6 and is receiving supportive care after testing positive at two laboratories. Nearly 690,000 people have been screened, and 127 of 130 listed contacts are in quarantine; the ministry says the public risk remains low, with no evidence of community transmission. The second patient is stable, while the first patient, who arrived from the Democratic Republic of Congo, has died.
