DR Congo: Moïse Katumbi’s defense denounces irregularities in proceedings before the Court of Cassation

Moïse Katumbi’s lawyer, Seignior Mazaba wa Bobaka, is challenging the legality of proceedings before the Court of Cassation following a 26 October hearing in cases RP 025/CR and RP 026/CR. He alleges irregularities in the summonses, a failure to verify Katumbi’s address, and that the cases were taken under deliberation without allowing the defense to make submissions. Citing an officially recorded change of residence to Brussels and Article 82 of a 2013 organic law, he says the proceedings could deny Katumbi a right to appeal and has formally requested that the hearings be reopened. The case pits Katumbi against his half-brother Raphaël Katebe Katoto, who has accused him since 2024 of taking property in Haut-Katanga; the court and prosecutors have not commented on the defense’s allegations.

The Association of Small Traders of Congo (APCCO) says Rushenge Patient and Bahati Dominique Buhendwa went missing on September 7 in Kamanyola, Walungu territory, South Kivu. After more than 45 days without news, the association says it does not know where they are being held or what happened to the money and their motorcycle. APCCO has contacted the UN Joint Human Rights Office and human rights organizations, calling for the merchants’ release and the return of their property.
