Kinshasa: Alexis Thambwe Mwamba detained by security forces

Former Congolese Senate president Alexis Thambwe Mwamba, who is over 80, was detained early on Friday, October 23, 2026, at his home in Macampagne, in Kinshasa’s Bandalungwa commune. According to reports, more than 30 soldiers were deployed for the operation, whose reasons have not been officially disclosed. Some sources suggest it may be linked to his recent trips to Europe and Kindu, in Maniema Province. Senator Salomon Kalonda denounced the detention on X as an “arbitrary arrest” and an “abject provocation.”
