A CNT/MDA poll released on October 16 gives right-wing Senator Flavio Bolsonaro 46.8 percent of the vote and leftist President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva 45.9 percent ahead of Brazil’s October 25 run-off. Two other polls also put Bolsonaro ahead, though all three results fall within a 2 percent margin of error, leaving the race uncertain. Bolsonaro received the most votes in the October 4 first round, with 56,104,503 to Lula’s 53,879,538. The son of former President Jair Bolsonaro has pledged to crack down on crime and drug trafficking and cut taxes used to fund government programmes.
