Lebanese pack bags and stock up amid fears of new Israeli escalation

Fears of renewed Israeli attacks are prompting people across Lebanon, especially in areas previously hit hard, to prepare for another escalation. Aya, who lives in Abbasiyeh in the south, has stocked extra medication for her grandparents and says she would leave if the attacks intensify again. Alberto Núñez Feijóo, leader of Spain’s People’s Party and the right-wing candidate for prime minister, said Spain should withdraw from hosting the 2030 World Cup if it does not get the final. Spain is co-hosting the tournament with Portugal and Morocco; Madrid is proposing Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu, while Morocco plans a stadium of about 115,000 seats in Benslimane near Casablanca. Feijóo said the final should be played in Spain and confirmed he would advocate withdrawal if Morocco gets to host it. FIFA has said no decision has been made, despite Moroccan federation president Fouzi Lekjaa’s assertion that the match would take place in Morocco.
