Legal proceedings targeting the opposition: CNDH calls on government and political actors to engage in dialogue

On 28 October 2026 in Abidjan, the National Human Rights Council (CNDH), chaired by Dr. Christian Arnaud Adjélou, called on the government, political parties and opinion leaders to pursue dialogue and consultation. It responded to legal proceedings involving officials from the PDCI-RDA and PPA-CI, stressing that being summoned or prosecuted does not establish guilt. The CNDH said the rule of law requires both effective justice and protection of fundamental rights and freedoms, which are essential to public confidence in institutions, democratic pluralism and national cohesion. Opposition figures named as indicted include Sébastien Dano Djédjé, Koua Justin, Aziz Thiam, Dia Houphouët, Roger M’Bia and Georges-Philippe Ezaley.
