Livestock: Togo and Burkina Faso strengthen cross-border trade traceability

Togo and Burkina Faso agreed on procedures for checking documents and handling alerts about livestock suspected of being stolen or irregularly sourced at a bilateral workshop held in Dapaong on October 20 and 21, 2026. Organized by GEVAPAF with RECOPA and the Billital Maroobé Network, the meeting brought together government bodies, veterinary services, customs officials, security forces and professional organizations. The measures focus in part on the Cinkassé market, where livestock tracking and recording arrivals and departures are intended to curb theft and underreporting, ease inspections and build traders’ confidence. Acting for Life reports that market tax revenues rose from about 200,000 CFA francs in October 2024 to nearly 3 million in October 2025.
