Local elections hand Da Cruz unexpected Chiefs lifeline

The postponement of Wednesday’s Betway Premiership matches because of local elections delays Kaizer Chiefs’ clash with AmaZulu and gives coach Fernando da Cruz some relief amid mounting pressure. AmaZulu, coached by former Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane, had won six matches in a row and would have entered the fixture as favourites. AmaZulu will first play Stellenbosch in the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-finals on Sunday, while Chiefs turn to their own quarter-final against Siwelele in Polokwane after losing to Orlando Pirates. Sporting director Kaizer Motaung Junior has publicly backed Da Cruz, but wins by Mamelodi Sundowns, Pirates and AmaZulu keep the coach under pressure.

Dakar 2026 Youth Olympics: Seydina Oumar Touré takes a swipe at Ousmane Sonko: “Diomaye Faye did it quietly, but…”

Seydina Oumar Touré, a former gendarmerie captain, accused Ousmane Sonko of politicizing the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games to boost his popularity. In a Facebook post, he contrasted President Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s quiet visit to a sports final with the announcements, rallies and livestreams he said Sonko needed around his appearance. Touré urged Senegalese people to unite behind the national flag and keep partisan politics out of the event. Dismissed from the gendarmerie in 2021, Touré has recently moved closer to Diomaye Faye and distanced himself from Pastef leader Sonko.
