The relocation and compensation process for artisanal miners at Kamilombe in Kolwezi began after an engagement protocol was signed on October 23. More than 20,000 miners are to be transferred gradually to Artisanal Mining Zone 371, about 60 kilometers from the city center. SAEMAPE has posted lists of mine-shaft owners eligible for compensation and is distributing compensation tokens. Governor Fifi Masuka says provincial authorities will support the cooperatives and miners, while cooperative officials have urged miners to retrieve their mineral products.
