Maize: Cameroon targets 6 million tonnes of production (+150%) by 2030, with support from IFAD and the World Bank

Cameroon aims to produce about 6 million tonnes of maize in 2030, a 150% increase, according to projections from the Agriconnect initiative. Launched in Yaoundé on October 21, 2026, by the Cameroonian government and the World Bank, with the participation of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Agriconnect seeks to help small-scale farmers move from subsistence farming to marketable production. The initiative plans to strengthen producer organizations, access to markets and finance, digital solutions, and private-sector participation. It targets eight value chains: rice, maize, cassava, oil palm, cocoa, soy, dairy farming, and aquaculture.

The collapse struck a major commercial hub for Nairobi’s Somali community, where Somali investors have reportedly put more than US$1.5 billion into the city’s economy over the past two decades.
