Mango sector: Côte d’Ivoire seeks to regain EU market, which accounts for 80% of its exports

After Ivorian mango exports to the European Union were suspended on August 1, 2026, the government is overhauling the sector to resume shipments in 2027; the EU takes more than 80% of export volumes. Agriculture Minister Bruno Nabagné Koné announced 3.5 billion CFA francs to treat 20,000 hectares of orchards across nine regions and deploy more than three million traps against fruit flies. For the 2027 season, 33 exporters and 34 packing stations were selected, while 15 exporters and nine stations were excluded; air-freight mango shipments are also suspended. Official inspections will be strengthened, and every export lot must be traceable to its orchard, producer and harvesting technician.

In office since June 2024, he says he has pursued modernization, prevention and digitalization under the government’s 2024-2028 transport program. Critics accuse him of focusing on air transport while road and river transport continue to see frequent fatal accidents.
