Meet Bill Trachman, the New U.S. Ambassador to Tanzania

William Trachman has taken up his post as U.S. ambassador to Tanzania in Dar es Salaam after being sworn in on August 19, 2026, under President Donald Trump’s administration. He also becomes the U.S. envoy to the East African Community, based in Arusha. A lawyer whose background includes civil rights and negotiations, he served as general counsel of the Mountain States Legal Foundation from 2021 to 2026 and previously held a role at the U.S. Department of Education. A law graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, Trachman has more than 20 years of experience resolving disputes.
