Microfinance: IFC approves CFAF 2.87 billion guarantee for BICEC loan to ACEP

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) approved a credit guarantee of up to CFAF 2.87 billion on October 9, 2026, for a loan that BICEC plans to make to ACEP Cameroun. The guarantee covers the full principal but not accrued interest; the transaction is awaiting signature, and no disbursement has been confirmed. The arrangement replaces a plan announced in July 2025 under which the IFC considered lending up to $5 million directly to ACEP. BICEC, a subsidiary of Morocco’s Banque centrale populaire group, already owns 27% of ACEP and can seek reimbursement from the microfinance institution for any amount paid under the guarantee if ACEP defaults.
