Mitchells Plain residents protest after pastor dies in alleged smash-and-grab attack

Mitchells Plain residents blocked traffic on Jakes Gerwel Road to demand justice after Pastor Anthea Wilkinson’s death and better protection from smash-and-grab attacks. Wilkinson, 53, a pastor at Jesus Celebration International, died from head injuries after the vehicle she was travelling in was allegedly attacked on October 11. Police opened cases of murder, malicious damage to property and common assault, but no arrests have been made. Church leader Charmaine Heywood said the protest was for all affected families and cited an alleged attack on a church member and her mother the day before the demonstration.
