MPs Asked to Document Community Projects as Civil Society Raises Questions

In early October, the Bureau of the National Assembly of the Democratic Republic of the Congo asked MPs to document social and community projects in their constituencies. Legislators are expected to provide evidence, including photos and videos, disclose costs, and list infrastructure they built or rehabilitated using their own funds, such as schools, bridges, roads and health centres. The initiative is intended to recognize these efforts and inventory infrastructure not yet managed by the state. Civil society actors have questioned how the projects are funded and whether they are consistent with MPs’ constitutional duties.
