NAFDAC to Test Donated Drugs Not Made in the US Under Nigeria-US Deal

NAFDAC says donated medicines and vaccines under the Nigeria-US agreement that are not manufactured in the United States will be tested for quality, safety and efficacy. US-made products approved by the US FDA may receive expedited regulatory consideration, but Nigeria retains its authority to regulate medical products. The agency will use its Track and Trace system to monitor supplies intended to help sustain HIV treatment following USAID’s withdrawal. NAFDAC also noted that it tested COVID-19 vaccines supplied during the pandemic and annually tests HIV, tuberculosis and malaria drugs provided through the Global Fund.
