National Coloured Congress (NCC) deputy president Larry Varrie predicted that the Democratic Alliance (DA) would win well below 50% in the Western Cape in the 2026 local government elections. He said his party had done the work needed to bring about a change in power and that a “new regime” would take over. After voting at Edgemead Primary School in Cape Town, Varrie said the NCC would continue to fight white supremacy and work to restore dignity in disadvantaged communities. DA leader and incumbent Cape Town mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis had voted at the same venue hours earlier.
