Neville says managers need sacking ‘for own good’ as Man Utd retain Carrick

Gary Neville says managers sometimes need to be sacked “for their own good” as Manchester United keep Michael Carrick in charge despite intense speculation about his future. United have gone eight games without a win, including a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth that left them one point above the Premier League relegation zone. The club have won only two of 12 matches in all competitions this season and are enduring their worst league start in 40 years. Neville believes United’s hierarchy debated Carrick’s future but lacked planning, available alternatives and decisive leadership.
