Ngaoundéré: More Than Six Tonnes of Dangerous Medicines Destroyed

More than six tonnes of dangerous medicines were destroyed at the Hysacam site in Sélébé-Darang in an operation led by the Standing Committee for the Fight Against Illicit Trade in Pharmaceutical Products under the supervision of Adamawa Governor Kildadi Taguiéké Boukar. The products came from police, gendarmerie and customs seizures from street vendors, as well as expired medicines removed from regional health facilities. The haul included tablets, injectable products, antibiotics and tramadol valued at seven million CFA francs. Health officials, including Regional Public Health Delegate Guillaume Tchedélé, warned of poisoning, serious complications and potential kidney and liver damage, urging people to buy medicines from licensed pharmacies and health facilities.

The outbreak has killed more than 4,000 people in the DRC, while Uganda, which had cases earlier this year, has been declared Ebola-free.

He urged Nigerians to remain calm, rely on official sources and avoid spreading unverified claims on social media.
