No vaccine for current Ebola outbreak, Africa CDC says

Africa CDC Director General Dr Jean Kaseya said vaccines for the current Ebola outbreak are unavailable because partners consider the disease an African issue. The outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo virus, for which no vaccine or specific treatment is approved, unlike the Ebola strain covered by the licensed Ervebo vaccine. Africa CDC has begun clinical trials of new vaccines, including a Bundibugyo vaccine manufactured in Egypt. The outbreak affects three regions of Africa, with more than 9,500 infections and about 4,600 deaths in the Democratic Republic of Congo; Nigeria is monitoring 44 contacts after confirming its first case.
