Nothing to suggest Ann Widdecombe killing was politically motivated, police say

Former MP and MEP Ann Widdecombe, 78, was found with serious injuries at her home in Haytor, Devon, on Thursday. Devon and Cornwall Police say there is nothing to suggest the killing was politically motivated. A 28-year-old white British man was arrested in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, on Saturday, and police are not looking for anyone else. Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman said officers remain open-minded about the motive and there is no threat to the public.

Appeal Court reserves judgment on appeals against deregistration of ADC, 4 others

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has reserved judgment on appeals seeking to set aside the Federal High Court judgment that ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other political parties. The other parties are the Action Peoples Party (APP), Action Alliance (AA), Accord Party (AP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP). The appellate court had previously stayed execution of the judgment, criticizing Justice Peter Lifu for disregarding a stay of proceedings order. The High Court had ordered deregistration for failing to meet constitutional requirements, barring the parties from participating in the 2027 general elections.
