Ebola response workers strike in Nia-Nia to demand their allowances

Field workers supporting the Ebola response began an indefinite strike on Friday, October 23, in the Nia-Nia health zone in Mambasa territory, Ituri. They are demanding nearly three months of unpaid allowances, which they say have not been paid since August, and have suspended all activities until they receive the full amount. Their spokesperson, Dr. Willy Ngeleza, said repeated efforts to resolve the issue with health authorities and partners had failed. The strike could disrupt disease surveillance, community outreach and infection prevention as Ebola continues to spread in health areas around Mambasa.

Hospital director Mariama Cissokho disputes the account, says the patient received appropriate care, and announces that the hospital will file a complaint on Monday.
